If you want a traditional beach hotel of solid virtues and good standards this is one of the best options on the west coast. Its circular lobby, with white pillars, might be a throwback to the style of the 1920s. Outside is dominated by a huge swimming pool, crossed by small bridges on the way to a large, sandy beach. The interiors were sensitively and stylishly refurbished in 2005, allowing the hotel to escape many of the shackles of its package-travel past.
